What is
Lasabrasion?

This procedure is very popular and is used primarily for hair removal, to treat sun-damaged skin, fine wrinkles, acne scars, and other conditions. It is also referred to as “laser peel” or “laser vaporization.”

What Are CO2 Lasers?

While its official name is “fractionated carbon dioxide laser,” it is commonly referred to as a CO2 laser. The laser precisely removes skin layer by layer by directing short, concentrated pulsating beams of light on the skin. Blemishes and imperfections are removed with the top layers of skin. There is minimal heat damage from modern CO2 laser techniques, and recovery is usually complete within two weeks. Some aftercare is generally required, and this will be thoroughly discussed with you before scheduling the procedure.

Good candidates for CO2 laser procedures may have:

  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage and spots
  • Lines around the mouth and eyes and crow’s feet
  • Some types of pre-cancerous skin growths

What does Fractionated Mean?

Fractionation means the laser rapidly treats a spot then skips over a tiny area of skin leaving it intact before treating the next spot. That tiny area left untreated quickly bridges the gaps, with the other untreated spots healing over the treated spots much more quickly.

People with very dark skin or active acne are not considered good candidates for this procedure. CO2 laser procedures are also not useful or recommended to treat stretch marks.

What are the Benefits of Lasabrasion?

  • Recovery is complete within two weeks
  • Minor discomfort during and almost none after the procedure
  • Aids with wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage and spots, and lines around the mouth, eyes, and crow’s feet
  • Can help with some types of pre-cancerous skin growths
  • Corrects texture and evens out pigment

How is Lasabrasion Performed?

Local anesthesia or light sedation is provided for lasabrasion. The laser is then used to remove layers of the skin in order to remove imperfections. Skin thickness, texture, and type are taken into consideration during lasabrasion.
