What is a Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that will remove pockets of fat in the upper arm. An arm lift reduces excess skin that droops under the upper arm. A brachioplasty will tighten and smooth the shape of the upper arm, giving you a more toned and proportioned arm shape.

Sagging skin cannot be corrected by exercise. You may find that even through your best efforts you still struggle with stubborn arm fat and excess skin. The arms can change due to fluctuation in weight, aging or even heredity. At liv Plastic Surgery, we can help give you the arms that you have always wanted.

What are the Benefits of Brachioplasty Surgery?

  • Improved tone and shape of the arms
  • Better body proportion
  • Reduction in the size of the arms and loose skin removed
  • Clothing will fit better and look better
  • Improved confidence

How is a Brachioplasty Performed?

A brachioplasty procedure is performed in one to three hours depending on the extent of the surgery. Typically, a brachioplasty only requires the use of local anesthesia, though general anesthesia could be recommended in some larger cases.

There are usually two parts to a brachioplasty: liposuction and skin tightening. An incision is made in the arm and fat is eliminated through liposuction surgery. After the fat is cleared from the area, the excess skin is removed, and the skin is sutured or stitched together to create a tight and toned look.

Liposuction alone may be sufficient in some cases, especially if you are only suffering from some extra fat in your arms. Dr. Ress may be able to smooth your arms by reducing the fat through liposuction surgery. If you are experiencing loose skin due to poor skin quality in your upper arms, then Dr. Ress will incorporate an arm lift for skin tightening.

After your procedure is complete, you will emerge from surgery looking fit and toned, with arms that better complement the rest of your figure.

Who is a Candidate for Brachioplasty (Arm Lift) Surgery?

You are likely a candidate for brachioplasty if you have:

  • Sagging skin under your upper arm
  • If you have undergone massive weight loss
  • If you feel that your arm size is disproportionate from the rest of your figure

What is the Recovery Time for Brachioplasty Surgery?

Dr. Ress is not only focused on great results but also on patient comfort. You will be prescribed pain medication to help with any post-surgery discomfort. There will be some mild discomfort directly after your arm lift procedure. Pain tolerance varies person to person, but you should not be in very much pain two to three days after your surgery. You may experience some swelling in your arms, but this will subside in a couple weeks. Dr. Ress recommends that you take about a week to recover before returning to work or your daily activities. Dr. Ress will guide you on the appropriate time to return to more strenuous activities or heavy lifting.

Where Do I Start?

Surgery of any kind is a big decision both financially and emotionally. Dr. Ress is the best judge of how to provide you with the arms that you desire. A consultation with Dr. Ress will provide you with realistic options and expectations. He will help guide you through making this investment in yourself.

How Much Does a Brachioplasty Cost?

Brachioplasty surgery is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore is not covered by insurance. The cost of your arm lift will depend on your aesthetic goals. It is important to understand that your case is unique and your treatment plan will be designed specifically to you, therefore, the cost will be determined after your needs are assessed. During the consultation, Dr. Ress will review the cost of all your options, so there is never a financial surprise.
