Many patients who seek out our breast reduction and breast lift services are doing so as a result of discomfort during daily movement, especially exercise. Overly large breasts can make exercise painful and the promise of more comfortable workout routine is certainly enticing! So, how soon can you exercise after a breast reduction or breast lift? To explain this, it’s important to understand what your breast reduction or breast lift recovery will entail.
What to Expect After Your Breast Reduction or Lift
Although the recovery process will be different for each individual, in most cases our patients take at least one week off from work or school to recover. It is normal to be more fatigued and experience some breast pain after these procedures. With this in mind, it is important to be gentle on yourself and take painkillers if necessary.
You will receive specific instructions from Dr. Ress, regarding when any bandages and stitches will need to be removed. Surgery is no small undertaking, and in order to see the best results, rest is crucial.
Incorporate Movement Slowly
The recovery process prioritizes wound healing and recovering from anesthesia. To support this, we recommend patients wait until any sutures are removed before introducing gentle movement, such as walking. Increasing levels of cardio may be introduced after four weeks. However, higher intensity activities such as lifting weights and contact sports should be avoided for at least three months.
